Castwise vs Fishbrain: a UK shore-fishing alternative
Both apps offer fishing forecasts, maps and logging, but they are built around different priorities. Fishbrain combines global community and discovery tools; Castwise concentrates on UK shore-fishing decisions.
Where Fishbrain is stronger
Fishbrain’s scale and breadth are genuine strengths. Its official features describe a global community, fishing maps, spot discovery, forecasts and BiteTime/BiteScore guidance, species information and a logbook. If your priority is social discovery, a large shared catch dataset or support across fishing disciplines and countries, that is valuable. Verify current details on the official Fishbrain features page.
Where Castwise is different
Castwise is deliberately focused: UK shore sea fishing, condition-led and privacy-conscious. Instead of putting a global feed first, it centres a deterministic scoring engine that reads tide, swell, terrain, species and season for public and private marks across the country. Your individual logbook and exact private marks are not published. When community learning is enabled, completed outcomes can contribute only to thresholded aggregates that exclude private mark IDs and private region labels. AI Fish ID is constrained to supported UK fish rather than trying to name every fish worldwide.
Neither approach is universally “better”. Castwise is the more specific fit when the question is which UK shore mark suits a selected time and target species, and why. Fishbrain is the broader fit when community and global discovery are central.
