Why we built Castwise

What Castwise is

Other fishing apps give you the data. Castwise tells you what to do with it. It turns tide, weather, swell, ground, season, moon and your own fishing history into a clear plan: where to fish, when to go, what to target, what to take and why it makes sense. The core is a deterministic scoring engine that makes the quantitative calls transparently. AI supports bounded explanation and UK fish photo identification; it does not choose or rescore the fishing marks.

Why we built it

Shore anglers already do a version of this in their heads — cross-referencing a tide table, a weather app, a map, a notebook and years of memory before deciding where to go. That process is slow, easy to get wrong, and locked inside experienced heads. We built Castwise to make that reasoning explicit, honest and available to anyone from their first session, without asking anyone to give up their private marks.

Built for the whole UK coast

Castwise is rolled out across the UK and ready to use for shore-fishing planning wherever you fish. The engine supports surf beaches, rock marks, estuaries, harbour edges, sheltered marks and exposed open coast, using the same condition-led scoring and safety model nationwide.

Our principles

Deterministic first: the maths belongs in the scoring engine, not a chatbot. Raw fishing potential remains visible, while safety concerns are listed separately and can reduce the recommendation score or block recommendation. Core safety is always free. Individual logs and exact private marks stay private; only thresholded condition outcomes can improve the wider model when contribution is enabled. Castwise is planning guidance, not a catch guarantee or a substitute for judgement on the coast.

Who operates Castwise

Castwise is operated in the United Kingdom by independent developer Richard Clifford. Product, privacy, correction and press enquiries can be sent to [email protected]. Castwise does not claim invented accreditations, endorsements, awards, review scores or catch statistics.
