These terms explain the rules for using Castwise. Please read them before using the app or website. When you create an account you are asked to confirm that you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy, and we record that acceptance (and which version you agreed to). By creating an account, using the app, buying a subscription, or using the website, you agree to these terms.
Castwise is operated by Richard Clifford, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom, operating as Castwise ("Castwise", "we", "us"). You can contact us at [email protected].
You must be at least 18 years old to create a Castwise account and to buy a subscription. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or over. Castwise is intended for adult sea anglers and is age-rated accordingly in the app stores.
Castwise helps anglers plan trips by combining app data, public or licensed data sources, personal preferences, user-entered catch history, AI-assisted explanations and scoring logic. The app may include features such as trip planning, mark scoring, fish identification, catch logs, bait and rig recommendations, safety reminders, subscription management and partner offers.
You must use Castwise lawfully, responsibly and only for personal, non-commercial purposes unless we agree otherwise in writing.
Castwise is not a navigation system, emergency service, professional guide, legal adviser or safety device. Sea fishing can be dangerous, especially around cliffs, surf beaches, estuaries, rocks, fast tides, piers, harbours and exposed marks.
You are responsible for:
In an emergency, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard where relevant.
Castwise may show raw fishing potential alongside a safety-adjusted recommendation. Detected risks can reduce the ranked score; high-risk conditions require you to read and acknowledge each listed concern before using planning, directions or session actions, while critical conditions or missing essential weather, marine or tide data are non-recommendable. An acknowledgement confirms only that the warning was displayed and read. It is not a guarantee, permission or declaration that a mark is safe.
Use entirely at your own risk. Sea fishing is an inherently dangerous activity that you choose to undertake. By using Castwise you acknowledge and voluntarily accept all risks involved in fishing and in getting to, from and around any location — including, without limitation, drowning, being cut off or swept away by the tide, being swept in by waves, slips, trips and falls, rock falls and unstable ground, cliffs, deep water and mud, cold, weather, wildlife, road, rail and traffic hazards, and hazards on private, industrial, military or restricted land. You are solely responsible for your own safety and that of anyone with you, and for every decision you make before, during and after a trip. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no responsibility or liability for any injury, illness, death, loss or damage arising from your use of Castwise, your reliance on any information it provides, or your fishing, travel or other activities.
Scout spots / Hidden Gems are algorithm-suggested from public map data, are unverified, and have not been checked by a person. They may involve cliffs, tidal cut-off, private land, railway lines and other serious hazards, and there may be no safe access at all. Treat them only as places to research and assess entirely for yourself before going anywhere near them. Never cross railway lines or tracks, never trespass, and never attempt access you are not certain is safe and lawful.
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in method secure and for activity on your account. You must provide accurate information where the app asks for it and must not impersonate another person, access someone else's account, or try to bypass app security.
If you think your account has been compromised, contact us at [email protected].
Some Castwise features require Castwise Plus. Subscription products may include monthly and yearly plans. Website prices are guide prices only; the App Store, Google Play or in-app purchase flow shows the binding local price, any trial or introductory offer, renewal date and exact product terms before you buy. A trial is not promised unless the checkout explicitly offers one.
Purchases and subscription entitlement checks are handled through the relevant app store and RevenueCat. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
Through the website updates form or at app sign-up, you can optionally choose to receive Castwise marketing emails (news, tips and new features). This is entirely optional and off unless you opt in, and it does not affect your use of the app. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email or by contacting us. We do not sell or share your email address with third parties for their marketing. Essential service messages — such as account, security and subscription notices — are not marketing and are sent regardless of this choice. How we handle your data is set out in our Privacy Policy.
You keep ownership of content you add to Castwise, including catch logs, photos, notes, marks and preferences. By adding content, you give us permission to host, store, process, display and use it as needed to provide, secure, improve and support the app.
You must only upload or enter content that you have the right to use. You must not upload illegal, abusive, misleading, infringing or harmful content, or content that exposes another person's private information without permission.
Your exact private marks and individual catch records are not published through community model learning. If “Help improve Castwise” is enabled, completed catches and blanks may contribute to thresholded aggregate condition patterns that exclude private mark IDs, coordinates and private region labels. You can opt out in Account. Deliberate sharing features are separate, and you are responsible for deciding what to share through them.
Fish identification, AI coach messages, bait suggestions, rig suggestions, scoring and trip recommendations are generated from available data and may be incomplete, uncertain or wrong. Up to two compressed Fish ID photographs may be processed by our AI provider, and submitted Fish ID images are not retained by Castwise after the request. Photos can be misidentified, conditions can change quickly, and unusual species or foreign fish can occasionally appear in UK waters.
You should treat app outputs as a starting point for your own judgement. Do not rely on Castwise as the sole source for species legality, edible status, conservation decisions, safety, navigation, access, or emergency decisions.
Castwise may recommend baits, rigs, tackle, shops or partners that could improve trip planning or catch likelihood for a target species. These recommendations are estimates based on available information, not guarantees of catches or performance.
We may receive commercial benefit from partner links, offers, discount codes or referrals. Partner recommendations do not remove your responsibility to check suitability, quality, price, availability and local rules before buying or using any product.
You must not:
Castwise, including the app, website, design, branding, text, software, scoring systems, recommendations, databases and other materials, belongs to us or our licensors. You may use Castwise only as allowed by these terms. These terms do not transfer ownership of Castwise intellectual property to you.
Castwise may rely on or link to third-party services, including app stores, RevenueCat, authentication providers, weather, tide, mapping, marine data, AI, hosting and partner websites. Third-party services may have their own terms and privacy notices. We are not responsible for third-party websites, products, data availability or policies.
We aim to keep Castwise useful and available, but we do not guarantee that the app, website, data feeds, subscriptions or specific features will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. We may update, change, suspend or remove features where needed for security, reliability, legal, commercial or product reasons.
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update this page and may notify users in the app or by other reasonable means.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or your statutory consumer rights.
Subject to that, Castwise is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis and you use it entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, and we accept no liability for any injury, illness, death, loss or damage — whether direct, indirect, consequential or otherwise — arising from your use of Castwise or your fishing, travel or other activities, including losses caused by your reliance on inaccurate, delayed, estimated or unavailable data, algorithm-suggested "scout" spots, unsafe decisions, ignored warnings, unlawful fishing or access, third-party services, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
You agree that you use Castwise as a planning aid only and that the decisions you make and the risks you take remain your own responsibility.
You can stop using Castwise at any time. You can delete your account and associated data using the app or by following our account deletion instructions. Deleting the app does not automatically cancel a paid subscription; subscriptions must be cancelled through the relevant app store or supported subscription management flow.
We may suspend or terminate access if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms, misused the service, created risk for other users, or caused legal, security or operational concerns.
Our Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, except where mandatory local consumer protection rules give you additional rights. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, the courts of England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory rights you have as a consumer.
